About
Two main research interests: Southern African literature, and the work of Joseph Conrad. Current theoretical line is the ethics of reading, with a linguistic bent (pragmatic and stylistic). I'm also intrigued by politeness and power and how these are registered in (mainly) literary texts. Have worked at the University of Zululand for 23 years, before that UNISA and Stellenbosch.
